SARASOTA -- A 21-year-old bicyclist who was hit by a car Saturday night in Sarasota is in serious condition at Blake Medical Center.
The crash occurred at 10:50 p.m. at State Road 72 and Country Road 773 in Sarasota County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The bicyclist was eastbound in the crosswalk on the south side of SR 72 crossing CR 773, the report states.
A 2000 Toyota Avalon driven by a 49-year-old Sarasota man was eastbound on SR 72 in the left lane.
After crossing the southbound lanes of CR 773, the bicyclist proceeded to cross eastbound SR 72 at an angle and entered directly into the path of the Avalon, according to the report. The left side of the bicyclist was struck by the front of the Avalon, the report states.
The driver of the Avalon and his 21-year-old female passenger suffered no injuries, according to the report.
The bicyclist was charged with violation of right of way, according to the report.
