MANATEE — Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue units responded to a reported structure fire in the Bayshore on the Lakes building in 2200 block of 38th Ave. W. about 12:38 p.m. Sunday.
A total of three engines and a battalion chief responded from Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue as well as one engine from Southern Manatee Fire Rescue and a ladder truck from Bradenton Fire Department. A Manatee County EMS unit also responded to the incident. Cedar Hammock units arrived within four minutes of receiving the call from the Manatee County 911 center with moderate smoke conditions coming from a unit on the fourth floor of a five-story condo building. After a further investigation the fire was found to have been extinguished by residents with fire extinguishers.
The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the condo unit and was believed to have been started accidentally by cooking. There were no reported injuries to either civilians or fire department personnel. One adult and three children were displaced as a result of the fire. They said that they would be staying with relatives for the time being.
The estimated loss in the fire was approximately $3,000.00, according to a Cedar Hammock press release.
