SARASOTA — A woman charged with shooting and killing her boyfriend of four years in their Ranchero Drive home in Sarasota in early August was arrested Thursday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Karli Wilbanks, 25, is charged with second-degree murder, according to the report.
Wilbanks called 911 just before 1 p.m. Aug. 4 claiming someone was trying to kill her at her home in the 1300 block of Ranchero Drive in Sarasota. When deputies arrived, they found Michael Goodman, 41, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the report.
Deputies say Wilbanks was sent to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for heart issues and spoke with detectives before being released.
According to Wilbanks, Goodman said he was going to kill her and quickly moved toward her. “She said she fired warning shots and then shot him,” according to the report.
But Wilbanks could not answer some questions asked during the investigation. Detectives also spoke with friends and neighbors who said they never saw marks on Wilbanks, though she told them about being physically abused.
According to deputies, most friends said “Goodman wanted to take care of Wilbanks and could not fathom him hurting her.” Acquaintances who attended a party at the home back in May said Wilbanks was jealous about a girl at the party and said she would kill her boyfriend.
Wilbanks was being held without bond at the Sarasota County jail.
