MANATEE — A Sarasota man has been charged with battery and interfering with 911 calls during an altercation with his live-in girlfriend, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Charles Dawson, 26, was arrested at 9:52 p.m. Tuesday in Bradenton, according to the report.
Dawson’s girlfriend said he got upset Aug. 21 when she had to work during his birthday weekend. When the victim went to work, she turned her phone off and when she turned it on after work she received multiple angry calls from Dawson, according to the report, including one where he threatened to destroy the house.
When she arrived at home on the 1500 block of Suponic Avenue in Sarasota with her child, some items were broken and there were holes in the walls, deputies reported.

She began to pack to leave and Dawson came in and held the bedroom door shut. As she called 911, Dawson opened the door, knocked the phone from her hand and forced her to the ground.
Dawson’s father pushed him off the victim and the men left before deputies arrived.
Dawson was being held in Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $1,500.
