MANATEE -- One driver died and one is in critical condition after a 5:20 p.m. collision Thursday at Country Road 675 and Rye Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 1997 Ford Expedition driven by a 29-year-old Wimauma woman was westbound on C.R. 675 about 2 miles west of Rye Road and a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 67-year-old Myakka woman was eastbound when the Expedition crossed the line and struck the Malibu head-on, according to FHP.
The driver of the Expedition was ejected through the driver-side door. She was airlifted to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries, according to the FHP report.
The Malibu driver expired at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the FHP report.

Criminal charges are unknown at this time, according to FHP, which reported alcohol testing is pending on both drivers.
