MANATEE -- One brother has joined another in the Manatee County jail, both charged with dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawn broker.
Christian Rivers, 21, was arrested Monday and booked into the Manatee County jail after detectives determined he was part of a stolen property case that had sent his brother, Miles Rivers, 24, to jail on July 24, said Dave Bristow, a sheriff's office spokesman.
Miles Rivers, who was still in custody Monday subject to a $27,000 bond, had been hired by a woman to house sit between the dates of March 7 and March 9 at her residence in the 8400 block of 25th Street East, Parrish, while she was out of town, according to a sheriff's office report.
It was not until July that the victim noticed several pieces of jewelry missing from her home and reported it.
The total value of the missing jewelry was in excess of $20,000, the report states.
A pawn search revealed that Miles Rivers pawned several pieces of the jewelry at several different pawn shops in Manatee County, according to the report.
Miles was already in jail on an unrelated domestic violence charge but told a detective in a jail interview that he took the jewelry and pawned some of it, according to the report.
Christian Rivers is being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office's jail website.
