MANATEE — A Sarasota woman was charged with illegal interception of communication after deputies say she recorded a conversation with a former employee without his consent in March, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Stacy Charette, 35, was arrested at 8 a.m. Tuesday at her home after deputies obtained an arrest warrant. The victim received a phone call March 17 from Charette and they spoke about his idea to open his own dance studio, according to deputies.
Charette told him she did not like the idea he was thinking of leaving without telling her first. She fired him and told the victim it wasn’t a good idea to solicit her students, according to the report.
Deputies say Charette recorded the conversation without the victim’s consent or knowledge and the victim did not know he was recorded until Charette emailed him a copy of the recording.
Charette replays the recording for her dance students to dissuade them from joining his studio, according to the report.
Charette was released Tuesday on $1,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s website.
