MANATEE -- Two Sarasota men were charged with trespassing an agricultural site for research Thursday after deputies say they jumped over a fence to collect mushrooms on someone else's property, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Richard M. Hinton, 24, and Timothy Erik McCurdy, 21, were arrested at 3:20 p.m. at 8000 Ogleby Creek Road, Myakka City. According to a report, Hinton and McCurdy parked Hinton's car on the side of the road and entered the property by jumping the fence. They said they did it to collect mushrooms.
According to the report, a witness saw both men, who ran and hid from him when they realized they were spotted. Once law enforcement arrived, deputies noticed the vehicle's tag was expired and conducted a traffic stop.
Both men were arrested and booked in jail. Hinton was being held on $1,000 bond and McCurdy was being held on $1,500 bond and later released.
