BRADENTON -- A fire destroyed a Bradenton apartment late Monday, according to Bradenton police.
About 11:30 p.m., fire and police units responded to the Carlton Arms apartments, 1201 Carlton Arms Circle, and found flames and smoke coming from the rear of an apartment in a two-story building.
"A second alarm was called due to the extreme fire conditions encountered and the size of the building involved," the Bradenton Fire Department said in a news release.
Police evacuated the remainder of the apartment building as Bradenton firefighters fought the blaze, according to a police report.
The damage was estimated at about $125,000.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and the American Red Cross responded to assist the tenant.
An adjacent apartment suffered minor smoke damage. Two adults and a child were assisting with housing by apartment management, according to the fire department.
The remaining 10 units in the building were not damaged.
The fire marshal continued to investigate the cause of the fire, according to police.
