MANATEE — A domestic dispute reportedly left a Parrish mother with a fishing hook stuck in her side.
The incident occurred at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Twin Rivers Trail in Parrish, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report. The victim was reportedly involved in a dispute with her son, Matthew Hawley, 31. over missing medication.
While arguing about the medicine missing from her purse, the victim noticed Hawley had brought his fishing equipment back into his bedroom after the victim had hauled it out to the garage.
During the argument, Hawley reportedly threw a fishing reel at the victim, striking her in the foot.
The victim retaliated by breaking his fishing poles over her knee, according to the report.
Hawley then reportedly swung the broken poles like a baseball bat across the victim’s buttock. Aa fishing hook attached to one of the poles lodged in the victim’s side, the report indicates.
The fishing book was removed by emergency medical services.
Hawley was arrested and charged with battery, according to the sheriff’s office website.
Hawley was being held without bond Monday in the Manatee County jail, the sheriff’s website indicates.
