A motorcycle rider was seriously injured when he tried to turn in front of an oncoming car on State Road 70, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 11:25 p.m. Friday as the motorcyclist was heading east on S.R. 70 approaching Verna Bethany Road on his Yamaha R6, an FHP report states.
The motorcyclist failed to see a Volkswagen Jetta that was headed westbound on 70 and turned left into its path, investigators said.
The Jetta swerved but could not avoid the motorcycle, colliding with its right rear side. Its driver, 46-year-old Daniel Stambugh of Lake Worth, was ejected.
Stambugh, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured, according to the report. He was treated at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
He was facing a charge of violation of right of way, the FHP said.
The driver of the Jetta, a 36-year-old Sarasota woman, was uninjured.
