SARASOTA — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit and U. S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force has captured a man on the run since September to avoid arrest for a sex offense against a child.
Detectives obtained a warrant for Jose Martinez, 23, after the victim reported he forced her to perform sex acts on him when she was just 6 years old. Her younger sister, who witnessed the crime, confirmed the incident to detectives and a threat by Martinez to kill their dog if they told anyone.
The Fugitive Apprehension Unit deputy who has been working the case for four months forwarded information to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, which arrested Martinez Tuesday.
He will be held without bond in Champaign, Ill., until he can be brought to Sarasota County to face charges of sexual battery on a child and tampering with a witness.
