A Bradenton woman in possession of two bags of K2 synthetic marijuana, also known as "spice," was arrested after she crashed into the car in front of her in downtown Bradenton on Tuesday morning, according the Bradenton Police Department.
The suspect was driving a BMW SUV west on Manatee Avenue West approaching 15th Street West about 8:30 a.m. when she struck a Chevrolet Capri in front of her, according to Bradenton police Sgt. Eddie Weldon.
Both drivers pulled into the parking lot of the Rusty Cricket in the 600 block of 15th Street West.
"We responded and officers conducted an investigation and found K2 on her and in her vehicle," Weldon said.
The passenger in the Chevy Capri was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, reportedly to be treated for back pain.
The suspect is currently charged with driving without a driver's license and careless driving. Additional charges could be forthcoming.
"We have to send it to the lab and have it certified," Weldon said.
Lab results can take months to return, according to police. One difficulty in identifying synthetic marijuana is that the ingredients continue to be altered slightly.
It is unclear the source of the K2, but police say that the woman does own local convenience stores.
