MANATEE — Authorities say a 35-year-old Manatee woman may have used a scheme to get someone to unlock their front door so she could commit a robbery.
Carolyn Sue Luna, of the 700 block of 17th Avenue West, reportedly knocked on a door in the 2100 block of 10th Street West at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and asked for someone who does not live at the residence, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
When the victim closed the door and walked inside another room in the house, Luna reportedly opened the unlocked front door and took a cell phone valued at $150 from a small table.
The victim told authorities she saw Luna take the phone and later identified her, according to the report.
The victim reportedly told authorities that Luna didn’t have permission to be in his home.
The cell phone was returned to the victim.
Luna, who was charged with burglary to an occupied home and arrested Tuesday, told deputies she did steal the phone but had permission to be in the home, the report indicates. She also told deputies she stole the phone to trade for drugs, according to the report.
Luna remained in the Manatee County jail Thursday subject to a $1,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
