SARASOTA -- A fleeing felon was arrested at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Dr. Martin Luther King Way and Mango Avenue, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reported.
Cody Reed, 21, was reportedly observed by deputies assigned to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office TAC Unit located driving a vehicle reported as stolen. The suspect tried to flee eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Way, lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway into a large ditch.
The suspect then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by deputies a short distance from the abandoned stolen vehicle.
Reed was arrested on two outstanding warrants (violation of probation-burglary) and grand theft auto. Additional charges regarding the fleeing and crash of the vehicle are pending.
Reed was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for any injuries suffered in the crash of the stolen vehicle. Once medically cleared, Reed will be transported to the Sarasota County Jail.
