SARASOTA -- Five men were arrested Thursday in an undercover sting targeting prostitution-related activity on North Tamiami Trail, according to Sarasota police.
"The operation targeted those individuals soliciting prostitutes in the city of Sarasota with the use of female undercover officers posing as prostitutes," a news release states.
Five men were charged with solicitation. One was also arrested on a warrants charging him with burglary, dealing in stolen property and fraud. Five vehicles also were seized, police said.
"Many people view prostitution as a victimless crime, but there are many affected to include some of the individuals forced into this life style and the neighborhoods plagued by such activity, said police Lt. Pat Ledwith, in the news release. "We will continue to attack the demand while diverting the supply in hopes breaking a cycle that has allowed prostitution to survive, and rid our neighborhoods of an offense that often breeds other crimes."
