BRADENTON -- A man was arrested after he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and set a fire late Sunday, according to Bradenton police.
Police were dispatched to the Kendall Ridge Apartments, 302 26th Ave. W., about 9:13 p.m. Bradenton Fire Department firefighters put out the fire, and police did not find anyone inside.
"Fire appeared caused by a cigarette in a bed, but an apartment window found open and pushed inward appeared suspicious," police said in a report.
Further investigation revealed that the resident of the apartment has an injunction against her former boyfriend.
"Multiple residents are aware of the situation and notified officers that the ex-boyfriend was at the apartment about 1 hour prior to the fire knocking loudly on windows and doors of the apartment, yelling as well trying to get the resident to come out," the report states.
Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies later located and arrested the man. Police said he admitted to be at the apartment.
The man, whose name was not included in the report, was charged with violating a domestic violence injunction.
