MANATEE — A juvenile with special needs, who had walked away from his sleeping grandmother, was discovered Tuesday sitting in a field of sand spurs just east of 14th Street West near the Bradenton Police Department’s District Two station. Bradenton Police officers reportedly found the victim whithout shirt or shoes, wearing a soiled diaper and picking spurs out of his feet. The victim had been sitting in the field for 45 minutes to an hour, police reported.
Police say the guardian was found at the Kentucky Colonel motel at 1431 14th St. W. The guardian, Terry Stoddard, 62, who gave her address as the Kentucky Colonel motel, told officers she fell asleep and her grandchild walked out of the motel, which is close to the busy road.
Stoddard said the last thing she remembered was watching cartoons with the victim and then waking up to the officer at her door.
Stoddard was charged with child neglect without bodily harm. Stoddard was in the Manatee County jail Thursday in lieu of a $1,500 bond.
