MANATEE -- No one was injured -- but two cars were struck -- during a shooting in Bradenton late Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 10:35 p.m., someone called 911 to report someone was shooting outside their house in the 900 block of 33rd Avenue East. As deputies arrived, a neighbor pointed to a silver Mercury Sable leaving the area, saying it was involved in the shooting, according to a news release.
Deputies were able to stop at the vehicle, and the driver, Levonta Murray, and passenger, Dominique Campbell, were removed from the car. Deputies found a handgun and marijuana in plain view on the front passenger floorboard, according to the report.
Back at the shooting scene, a neighbor told deputies that she was outside and had seen a man wearing all black clothing get out of a silver vehicle. As the man approached, the woman said she ran inside and heard gunshots, according to the report.
Deputies found numerous shell casing next to a Mercury Grand Marquis parked in a driveway. "The location of the casings along with the bullet holes in the car suggest someone was firing at the unknown subject who was approaching," the report states.
Another car, with a man inside, was struck across the street.
Deputies said they checked with local hospitals and there were no reports of anyone being shot.
Campbell was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence for ingesting some of the marijuana before the traffic stop. He was being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $9,500.
Murray was released with a citation for running the stop sign at 33rd Avenue East and Ninth Street East after the original witness recanted their story about the Sable being involved in the shooting, deputies said.
