BRADENTON -- A 30-year-old man was arrested late Tuesday after he bound two women in their Bradenton apartment and stole one of their cars, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Brian Keith Kirsch knew the women beforehand, as he had frequently visited their apartment in the 2900 block of 26th Street West to eat and shower, according to police. After he was arrested, he told police he robbed the women in order to buy drugs.
About 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, Kirsch visited the women. Shortly after arriving, he went outside to make a telephone call.
When he returned, police said the women described him as being "agitated."
"At this time both ladies were sitting in the living room watching television, when Mr. Kirsch walked up to the hem and bound both their hands and feet with clear wrapping tape," a police report states. "Both victims stated Mr. Kirsch had a knife in his hands, however (he) never used it."
Kirsch ordered one of the women onto a bed in a bedroom and demanded money. He then went back to the living room and dumped the second woman's purse on the ground, taking her car keys and leaving, according to police.
About an hour later, in response to a police bulletin, Kirsch was arrested by the Sarasota Police Department.
During an interview there, Kirsch admitted to tying up the women at knifepoint and taking the car. He said he "just snapped" after trying to call a friend on the telephone, police said.
"Mr. Kirsch stated he has a drug problem and the incident tonight, was driven by his addiction to cocaine," the police report states. "Mr. Kirsch stated he was going to use the money and transportation he now had available to him, to find more illegal narcotics."
Kirsch faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, motor vehicle theft, battery on person over 65, battery and false imprisonment. He was being held without bond at the Sarasota County jail.
