MANATEE — A man was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, among other charges, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
James Christopher Cole was arrested in the 200 block of 33rd Street West in Palmetto, according to the arrest report.
Cole arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s mobile home and was allegedly banging on the door as she was inside with her new boyfriend. After she answered the door, Cole allegedly attempted to stab her with a pocket knife. The new boyfriend jumped to her defense and a physical struggle ensued.
Cole allegedly stabbed him multiple times, causing a puncture to his right palm, a cut on his left hand, a puncture wound to his left ear and various cuts in the front torso area.
The boyfriend was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Cole left before deputies arrived and was located shortly after under his bed in his mobile home. Cole reportedly struggled with deputies while being taken into custody, including trying to kick and bite.
Cole’s charges include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest with violence
Cole remains in custody at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $60,500.
