After apparently confessing on Facebook to murdering his wife and then posting a photo of her body, a South Miami man turned himself in to police Thursday.
The suspect, Derek Medina, 31, went to police after he reportedly shot Jennifer Alfonso, according to a post on Medina’s personal Facebook account.
A preliminary investigation shows he may have shot the woman, Miami-Dade police said.
Miami-Dade homicide detectives, who investigate deaths in South Miami, have not announced charges. Police found the body of a woman in the townhouse at 5555 SW 67th Ave. A 10-year-old girl was escorted from the home by police officers. She was not injured and emerged wrapped in a blanket.
Police have not confirmed Medina posted his crime on social media. But the post read: “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you’ll see me in the news.”
According to county records, Medina and Alfonso had been married since April 2012.
The grisly photograph shows the woman in black leggings, her legs bent back at an awkward angle. Her left arm and left cheek are bloody. It appears she fell dead in front of the oven in the kitchen.
Medina said his wife was abusing him, according to his Facebook page.
“My wife was punching me and I’m not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did. Hope u understand me.”
Medina, on his public Facebook account, describes himself as property management supervisor and an actor for the Miami-based crime drama "Burn Notice."
He is also a self-published author, writing e-books with titles such as "How I Saved Someone’s Life" and "Marriage and Family Problems Thru Communication" and "How a Judgmental and Selfish Attitude Is Destroying the World We Live in Because the World Is Vanishing Beneath Our Eyes."
