The Florida Highway Patrol reported one person was killed and four seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision at 3:47 p.m. Sunday at State Road 70 and Curtis Road in Manatee County.
FHP reports a 1999 Chevy Cavalier driven by a 43-year-old Bradenton man was westbound on State Road 70 when a 2008 Chrysler Aspen driven by 31-year-old Devin Gilmore of Arcadia traveling eastbound spun out of control and traveled into the westbound lane hitting the Cavalier head-on.
The vehicles then traveled onto the north shoulder where the Aspen overturned onto its roof.
An 8-year-old passenger in the Cavalier, Sierra Proulx of Bradenton, was killed in the collision. The Cavalier driver was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with serious injuries. A 42-year-old Bradenton woman passenger also sustained serious injuries.
Gilmore was taken to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. His passenger, a 29-year-old Arcadia woman, also sustained serious injuries.
The FHP charged Gilmore with failure to use due care.
The FHP reports alcohol was not a factor and all injured parties were wearing seat belts.
