The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men for allegedly committing armed robbery in a drug deal gone wrong.
A man reported he and a friend were robbed at gunpoint early Saturday morning by two men who were supposed to sell them a significant amount of prescription drugs.
Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ car at Cattlemen Road and Center Pointe Drive and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The vehicle initially took off but was stopped less than a quarter-mile away. The suspects were arrested and deputies recovered a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun and $900 cash.
Earnest Arnold, 17, 1850 21st St., Sarasota, is charged with two counts robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Robert Rutledge, 22, 1927 33rd St., Sarasota, is charged with two counts robbery with a firearm, fleeing to elude and driving with a revoked license.
