MANATEE — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has obtained a murder warrant for the arrest of the ex-boyfriend of the slain Jazmin Catano.
Andres Collazos, 24, is believed to be hiding in Colombia.
Catano was found dead just before midnight on June 23 in her apartment in the 5900 block of 36th Street West.
Collazos was named the only person of interest in her death after detectives learned he flew out of Fort Lauderdale to his native Colombia the same day she was found dead.
Catano’s brother, Gustavo Catano, was relieved at the news.
“I feel very satisfied with the news of the order for his arrest,” Catano said. “Now it depends on the Colombian authorizes so they can capture him.”
Catano said he is pleased with the time taken by detectives to build a case against Collazos.
“They have done a very deep investigation and they didn’t rush it,” Catano said. “They wanted to make sure that he was the one and to gather all the evidence necessary.”
Detectives feel they have gathered enough evidence to obtain the arrest warrant, according to a news release.
The affidavit in support of the warrant is not available since a judge has sealed the record because it contains information that could hamper the case if released to the public.
