MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy was cut off by another motorist and forced off the road Wednesday evening while responding to an emergency, according to a sheriff's office news release.
About 8:36 p.m., the deputy, who was driving in "emergency mode," was going up the U.S. 301 overpass over First Street when she drove up behind another vehicle.
The deputy moved to the right lane to pass, but the other vehicle also moved to the right.
"The two cars may have come in contact but regardless (the deputy) lost control and drove over the shoulder and down the south side embankment," the report states.

The patrol car came to rest at the bottom of the hill.
The other car continued southward and could not be located.
The deputy was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, according to the report.
