A 26-year-old Sarasota man died of injuries sustained in a vehicle collision about 3 p.m. Monday at the traffic light at Bee Ridge Road and Tuttle Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told FHP Michael Hicks was driving a 2011 Suzuki GSX-R northbound on Swift Road in the inside left lane approaching the intersection of State Road 758 (Bee Ridge Road) just before the accident, and a 33-year-old Sarasota man and passenger were traveling southbound in a 2000 Dodge Dakota on Tuttle Avenue in the left turn lane approaching the Bee Ridge intersection.
According to witnesses, Hicks proceeded through the intersection as the traffic light turned red. The front of his vehicle struck the right side of the truck. Hicks was airlifted to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries he did not survive.
A passenger in the truck was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
FHP reports alcohol was not involved. Hicks was not wearing a helmet, FHP reported.
