A Bradenton husband and wife have been charged with a sexual battery authorities say first occurred 28 years ago in Manatee County.
Nelson Edward Stansbury Sr., 64, and his wife, Jackalene Sue Stansbury, 59, allegedly perpetrated a sexual crime against an underage victim by a parent over the age of 18, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report. They were arrested Friday.
The victim told a detective May 29, that the the abuse began in 1981 in Perry County, Ky. when Nelson Stansbury moved into the family home as a step-parent.
The abuse continued in 1985 when the family moved to Manatee County, the victim said.
When Nelson Stansbury returned to Kentucky to retrieve family belongings, the victim disclosed the abuse to Jackalene Sue Stansbury, who allegedly said she would take care of it when Stansbury returned.
But when Stansbury returned, Jackalene Sue Stansbury reportedly became involved in the abuse as well. “I hate to say it like this, but it was like a threesome,” the victim told the detective.
The victim reported the abuse continued for years.
During his interview with the detective, Nelson Stansbury allegedly denied involvement, but later admitted the victim was not lying and was owed an apology, the report states.
Jackalene Stansbury also denied the allegations but later reportedly admitted she joined her husband having sex with the victim three or four times.
Asked why she and her husband did this, Jackalene Stansbury reportedly said they were drinking, doing drugs and partying a lot in those days.
Nelson and Jackalene Stansbury were being held without bail Monday in the Manatee County jail, according to the sheriff’s office’s website.
