A Bradenton man was arrested Monday after he allegedly locked his girlfriend in their apartment all night and punched her in the eye, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Thomas Danks, 42, was charged with battery and false imprisonment after receiving treatment at Blake Medical Hospital for injuries sustained in a bar fight at Oasis Bar prior to the incident, according to an arrest report.
The incident began after Danks arrived home late Saturday on the 800 block of 25th Street West from the Oasis Bar in Manatee County. The victim told police she was confined inside the home she shares with Danks until 7:30 a.m. Sunday when she managed to get the attention of her neighbor by banging on the door with a candle.
Once inside, she told the neighbor she had been beaten, confined and not permitted to use her cell phone. The victim said she hesitated to call police because Danks is on probation. Police were called to the home at 11:18 p.m. Sunday and report Danks was extremely intoxicated when they arrived with a bruised and swollen left eye, which he said he got at the Oasis Bar.
Danks was transported to Blake Medical Center where a Manatee deputy took a report on the fight. Danks reportedly admitted to having a physical altercation with his girlfriend but denied the imprisonment. He also told police he left the home once she threatened to call the police.
Police report they obtained a witness statement from the neighbor.
Danks was released from Blake Medical Center, arrested and taken to Manatee County jail. No bond was set.
In July 2010, Danks was convicted of third-degree aggravated assault and misdemeanor first-degree battery. In September 2010, Danks pleaded no contest to felony third-degree battery and was placed on probation.
