MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy totaled a patrol car and sent two other drivers to the hospital with minor injuries about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in failing to stop for a red light at the 2400 block of U.S. 301 westbound, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy reported the brakes of her car were not working properly at the time of the accident.
The deputy "looked down at her issued MCSO computer attempting to attach to a call for service," a report states "When she looked up and seen the vehicle in front of her she attempted to apply the brakes in the pool car that she was driving but they appeared, in her opinion, not to be working properly."
The patrol car struck the rear of one vehicle pushing it into the rear of a second vehicle stopped for the red light in front of the Harllee Packing Inc. building, according to the sheriff's office.
All occupants were transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The patrol vehicle was totaled and towed. The other vehicles were towed due to not having a driver.
