BRADENTON -- A 31-year-old Bradenton woman was stabbed to death, and the possible suspect -- her husband -- is in the hospital recovering from self-inflicted stab wounds, according to Bradenton Police Department.
Karen Mudgett was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.
A little more than hour earlier, at 10:22 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 2000 block of St. George Drive East, which is off Riverside Drive in East Bradenton.
The caller reported that Sean Mudgett, 41, was stabbing his wife, Karen Mudgett, with a knife, police said.

"When officers arrived, they heard screaming and entered the residence to find Mrs. Mudgett with life threatening stab wounds to her upper torso. Officers also found Mr. Mudgett stabbing himself," the release states.
Both were sent to area hospitals. Mrs. Mudgett later died, and Mr. Mudgett is in intensive care.
"Upon his release he will probably be charged, but it is still being investigated," said police Lt. William B. Fowler.
Karen Mudgett's death would be the fourth homicide of the year in Manatee County -- all within the city limits of Bradenton.
The case is being investigated by the multi-agency Manatee County Homicide Investigative Unit.
