SARASOTA -- A 70-year-old Sarasota man has been charged with sexually assaulting the same child he was convicted of abusing in 1989, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
In 1989, Jerald Gene Williams was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl from the time she was 3 until she was 6 years old.
"He was sentenced to community control but was not prohibited from contact with the victim," the sheriff's office said. "The abuse subsequently continued for years."
The victim, now an adult, recently contacted detectives and reported that Williams had sexually assaulted her until she was 14, the sheriff's office said.
"Detectives monitored a recent conversation between the victim and Williams, during which time he made tacit admissions without denial as the victim described the history of the sexual assaults," the report states.
"When taken into custody today Williams confessed to his crimes," the sheriff's office said.
Williams was charged with sexual battery on a child. He is being held without bond at the Sarasota County jail.
