MANATEE -- Deputies say they arrested a man who robbed two Bradenton convenience stores, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said that about at about 12:46 a.m., Gary Robinson, 50, entered the 7-Eleven store at 224 Pearl Ave. After selecting a drink from a cooler, he went to the counter as if to pay. When the cash register was opened, the suspect lunged over the counter for the open cash drawer, according to a news release.
The clerk resisted and a brief struggle ensued. Robinson managed to grab a small amount of cash and fled the store with the money and drink, according to the sheriff's office.
Robinson fled in a SUV, according to the report.
Within two hours, deputies spotted the vehicle and Robinson was arrested.
Robinson is also the suspect in a second store robbery that occurred while deputies were looking for him.
About 1:05 a.m., a man entered the Circle K at 904 30th Ave. E., selected a beer from the cooler and went to the counter with beer and money in hand, according to the sheriff's office.
"Once the clerk opened the drawer the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed an unknown amount of currency from the register," a news release states. "As the suspect grabbed the money the store clerk slammed his hand in the drawer, which caused him to flee, leaving his beer behind."
The suspect was described as leaving in a SUV.
Robinson was being held at the Manatee County jail on two counts of robbery. His bonds totaled $15,000.
