MANATEE -- A police dog early Wednesday captured a domestic violence suspect who deputies say pushed his mother, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 2 a.m., Steven Rex, 33, got into an argument with his mother in the 7000 block of 60th Avenue East, Ellenton. He pushed her to the ground, causing a minor knee injury, and fled on foot, according to a news release.
Deputies, including a K-9 unit, searched the area but could not find Rex. Meanwhile, the victim called the sheriff's office to say her son had returned home but had fled again, according to a report.
During a second track, deputies saw Rex and attempted to arrest him but he disregarded commands and tried to flee, according to the sheriff's office.
"This time K9 Rex was able to apprehend Mr. Rex, and he was taken into custody without further incident," the report states.
Suspect Rex suffered minor bite injuries to his arm, leg and buttocks. Facing charges of domestic battery and resisting arrest, he was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
