TAMPA -- A 27-year-old Bradenton man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Robert Lee Lane was sentenced last week, after pleading guilty on Nov. 27, according to a news release.
According to court documents, Lane was arrested Jan. 3, 2012, after law enforcement officers saw him "engaging in a drug transaction on the side of the road in Manatee County, the release states.
When Lane saw the authorities, he fled on foot. During the chase, he was seen tossing a gun into the backyard of a residence, the U.S. attorney's office said.

"At the time of his arrest, Lane had multiples previous felony convictions. As such, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law," the release states.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
