MANATEE -- A burglary suspect fled in his car from deputies who had surrounded the scene of the crime in the 2700 block of 4th Street West about 6:44 p.m. Sunday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect nearly hit a deputy who was placing stop sticks in the road. The deputy was narrowly able to avoid being hit, the sheriff's office said.
A pursuit was initiated resulting in a crash at 2600 15th Street West.
A section of 26th Avenue between U.S. 301 and 15th Street East was closed Sunday night for about a hour as investigators sorted out what had happened.
Christian McClenden, 22, of Bradenton was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
