MANATEE — A Bradenton man was charged Tuesday with felony battery in a hate crime.
James Dickinson, 61, allegedly attacked two people near his home in the 3700 block of 14th Street West, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. During the attack, Dickinson reportedly made comments regarding the victims’ sexual orientation.
The victims were walking a dog and when they passed Dickinson’s home the dog began to bark at a passerby. Dickinson allegedly yelled at the men to make the dog be quiet, punching one of the victims. The victim shoved him into the doorway, a report states.
Another man began beating up the victim. Another victim stepped in to break up the altercation.
The victims returned home and called the police.
Dickinson was released from the Manatee County jail Wednesday after posting a $1,500 bond.
