MANATEE — A 72-year-old woman was robbed Monday by two women who told her they wanted to make a $3,000 donation to a church.
The victim was approached at the Walmart on Cortez Road around 3:30 p.m. by two women who told her they were looking for a specific church so they could present the church with the donation, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim told the suspects that she knew a better church to honor with such a donation, the report stated.
The victim drove the suspects to her home to drop off her groceries and then to the church.
On the way to the church, one of the suspects said she was feeling sick and asked the victim to pull the car over. The victim parked in front of Whitfield Plaza at 6800 14th St. W., Bradenton, the report states.
The older suspect, who was sitting in the front seat, then pushed what the victim believes was a knife into her ribs and demanded all her money and jewelry, deputies said.
The suspects took all of the victim’s money and jewelry and then fled on foot, running south. The suspects are described as a 45-year-old female with short black hair and a tattoo on her right calf and a 25-year-old female with shoulder-length dirty blond hair and blue eyes, the report concludes.
