SARASOTA -- Sarasota police are seeking the public's help in identifying a burglary suspect who assaulted a woman while she was sleeping in her bed.
Police said they believe the man is a prowler responsible for other similar incidents in the past two years ago.
About 4 a.m. on Feb. 7, the 22-year old victim was confronted by a burglar who assaulted her while she was sleeping.
"The victim screamed, the perpetrator jumped out of the victim’s bed and fled the residence through the back door. This attack occurred in the 3900 block of Bay Shore Road," police said in a statement Friday. A witness who heard the victim’s scream checked the area and found a suspect that he chased and confronted in the 3700 block of Bay Shore Road.
The suspect was described as standing 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and being 19 to 26 years old. He had a thin to medium build, and short brown hair. Police said have been similar incidents in this same area that have occurred over the past two years. The previous incidents have occurred in the area south of the Ringling Museum and west of the North Tamiami Trail.
