MANATEE -- A Bradenton resident late Monday scared off a would-be robber by pulling his own knife on the suspect, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
About 9:45 p.m., the victim was in the front yard of his residence in the 6100 block of 10th Street East, when he was approached by a man who asked to use the victim's house phone. The victim allowed him to do so, according to a news release.
Once the call ended, the victim tried to retrieve the phone, but the suspect refused to hand it over. The suspect then pulled a knife and said, "Give it up," the report states.
The victim refused to comply and pulled out his own pocket knife, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspect threw the phone towards some bushes and fled westbound along 61st Avenue Terrace East.
Deputies responded with a police dog, but the suspect was not located.
