SARASOTA -- A Sarasota man has been charged with "doctor shopping" in order to illegally obtain almost 11,000 Oxycodone and other pills, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Michael Wayne Arnold, 44, was arrested and charged with eight counts of withholding information from a practitioner in order to obtain a controlled substance. The doctors he used between August 2010 and August 2011 were in Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa and Miami, according to the sheriff's office.
"In all, he obtained an estimated 10,775 pills of Oxycodone, Dilaudid, Carisoprodol, Morphine, Methadone and Xanax, approximately 879 pills a month," a sheriff's news release states.
According to the sheriff's office, Arnold has an extensive criminal history and, at the time of his arrest was out of jail on bond for a DUI charge in May of this year.
The sheriff's office identified Arnold as an unemployed construction worker.
Arnold was being held on bonds totaling $960.
