PALMETTO -- A man was riding his bike this morning on 8th Avenue when he was pushed from behind and knocked off his bike by someone, police reported.
Three more men got out of a car and pointed a knife at him and his back pack. They spoke Spanish and the victim could not understand them, according to the report.
He realized they wanted his backpack and was going to take it off when he got cut on his right arm, police reported. The victim told police that one man tried to cut the straps of his backpack; the cut was superficial. The suspects stole the backpack's contents, which included three medications: a bottle of MSContin, Valium and over-the-counter ibuprofen. They also took his wallet with some cash and his driver's license, the report stated.
The victim said he had never seen the suspects before, but he recognized the car. The vehicle was described as a four-door, dark-blue car with a u/k bumper sticker on the rear bumper, possibly a Mazda, and it sped south on 8th Avenue after the incident.
The victim was treated by EMS at the scene and required no further attention.
