MANATEE -- A newborn baby apparently was not injured during a robbery in Bradenton early Sunday.
A 30-year-old man told Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies he got up at 4:30 a.m. to care for his newborn baby at his home in the 5700 block of East Fifth Street.
After attending to the baby’s needs, the man said he went outside to smoke a cigarette.
A man wearing all black clothing approached him in his driveway, according to a sheriff’s office report.
When the victim turned to go back inside his house, the suspect punched him in the head, knocking him out, he told deputies.
When he came to an hour and a half later, his baby was OK, but he noticed his cigarettes and $180 in cash were gone, according to the report.
He called 911 from his home at 6:51 a.m.
The victim had a minor contusion to his eyebrow and cheek, but declined medical treatment, the report concluded.
