BRADENTON -- A police crackdown on juvenile offenders who break court-ordered curfews has lead to a decline in certain crimes in the city of Bradenton, according to the police department.
Since June 1, the department has been working with the Manatee County Office of Juvenile Probation in "Operation Sandman" to target juvenile offenders that detectives believe were still committing crimes while on conditional release pending court proceedings.
Officers began conducting nightly curfew checks, and since June 1 have arrested five juveniles found to be in violation of their curfew, according to a news release.
Police said that since the operation started, there has been a 5 percent decrease in burglaries compared to last year; a 2.5 percent decrease in thefts; and 14 percent decline in vehicle thefts.
The department said the operation will continue.
