MANATEE -- Fire officials were investigating what appeared to be an attempted firebombing early Sunday in southern Manatee County, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner of a residence in the 4000 block of 75th Terrace East, Sarasota, went outside about 5:05 a.m. when he noticed a glow. He found a small fire, which he thought was electrical, and doused it with water, according to the sheriff's office.
Responding deputies, however, said someone had thrown a Molotov cocktail, comprised of a bottle filled with gasoline and a rag, against the house.
The Southern Manatee Fire District has taken over the investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
