MANATEE -- The Palmetto Police Department is calling on the public to help solve a homicide case.
John Ruger, 44, was last seen alive after he left his Palmetto home in the early morning hours of Jan. 19, 2010. He was headed to the 1400 block of 12th Street East to pay off a debt.
Hours later, a patrol officer found him dead in his vehicle, his feet still pressed on the brakes, according to Detective Chad Oyler.
In the days following his killing, DNA evidence was collected and interviews conducted, and investigators were able to identify a few suspects, who have yet to be ruled out, Oyler said.
But the case still remains cold.
“We’re doing everything we can do,” Oyler said. “It’s hard to get a solid answer.”
Any information provided by the public could help lead to an arrest in the case, he said.
Persons with information about this case are asked to call Oyler at 721-2000, ext. 306, or Manatee County Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-8477.
Callers may remain anonymous and may be entitled to a reward.
