MANATEE -- A 19-year-old man has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in the death of a 11-month-old girl last month in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Payton Nash died Sept. 14, two days after she suffered a skull fracture when John Morico tripped while holding the child and accidentally fell on her, according to the sheriff's office. The incident happened in a trailer in the 3700 block of Manatee Avenue West.
Since the incident, detectives had determined there were inconsistencies in statements made by Morico and by Payton's mother, his live-in girlfriend. The mother has not been charged, but the investigation is continuing, according to the sheriff's office.
Morico was being held at the Manatee County jail on $10,000 bond on the original charge filed in the case, child neglect with great bodily neglect. He had not yet been booked on the manslaughter charge, according to the jail website.
