PARRISH — An ultra-light aircraft experienced an engine failure at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, causing the pilot to make an emergency landing near Moccasin Wallow Road, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Pilot James Clendenon was unhurt when he brought the plane down in an empty subdivision of Artisan Lakes, just west of Interstate 75 and Moccasin Wallow Road, according to a news release.
Clendenon was flying the plane at an altitude of 400 feet when the engine failed in the one-seater.
As he touched down, Clendenon’s left front tire collapsed when he hit a curb, the report states.
The plane continued east into a field for about another 100 yards, then came to rest. It appeared to be undamaged, except for the broken wheel, the report added.
Clendenon told deputies he was going to come back to the scene today with a trailer to pick up the plane.
