MANATEE— A 60-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly pointing a machete at a family member’s face and throwing punches at her for coming home late, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the victim’s sworn statement, Major Franklin Evans began to throw punches at the victim’s hands shortly after the argument began. She then called 911.
While the victim was on the phone, according to the report, Evans went to his bedroom and retrieved a machete.
He then pointed the blade about five inches from the victim’s face and began calling her names, the report said.

The victim said she was scared and believed Evans was going to cause her harm.
No injuries were observed to the victim according to the arrest report.
Evans has been charged with aggravated assault and simple battery. He is currently in Manatee County jail on a $10,000 bond.
