MANATEE — A 47-year-old man was in fair condition today at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after he was stabbed Saturday night, according to a nursing supervisor.
The man was hanging out at a mobile home park in the 3500 block of 14th Street West when 56-year-old Ronald Baskins approached him and a 51-year-old man on a bicycle at 10 p.m. Baskins allegedly took out a pipe and began beating the 51-year-old. When the 47-year-old man intervened and took the pipe away, Baskins brandished a knife. He stabbed the man in the left side of his chest.
The stabbing victim was taken to Bayfront while the other man was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Baskins arrived at Manatee County Sheriff’s Office shortly after where he was arrested.
Baskins, who faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery, remains in the Manatee County jail on $600,000 bond.
